A gem on the Croisette, the JW Marriott Cannes reflects the elegance of the Riviera, blending modern luxury with artistic and cultural heritage.
It is said that the destiny of the JW Marriott Cannes is closely tied to that of Cannes, whose seeds of renown were planted by its founding father, Lord Brougham, ex-Chancellor of England. In 1834, on his way to Italy to care for his daughter, he discovered a little fishing village. Enchanted by the sunlight on the Mediterranean shores, he decided to settle here. The town soon became a fashionable destination, especially among European yachtsmen. Enthusiasm for yachting gave rise in 1859 to the ‘‘Société des Régates de Cannes’’. The Yacht Club was then created in 1863, and a dedicated building appeared on the Croisette: the ‘‘Cercle Nautique’’, a haven for high society for 75 years. In 1949, it was replaced by the Palais des Festivals. Known as the ‘‘Palais Croisette’’, it hosted all the town’s major events for over 41 years, including the Film Festival, a must get-together for stars and celebrities of the day.
It was not until 1988 that this legendary building was transformed into an hotel by architect Michel Delattre. A nod-and-a-wink to the magic of the movies, the Théâtre Croisette with 820 seats was installed in the basement. Several owners and brands succeeded one another; from the Noga Hilton to the Palais Stéphanie, until the current JW Marriott 5-stars. With architect Alain Moatti and his team at the helm, including interior design champagne bar, Italian restaurant, private beach, panoramic terrace, conference centre, not forgetting 262 rooms, spruced up and decorated on the theme of the 7th Art… JW Marriott pulled out all the stops!
