Summer vibes: a celebration of Rosé

With its spellbinding tastes and nuances, rosé wine is a treat for sore eyes and the tastebuds: each sip celebrates the Mediterranean lifestyle.

From Parisian terraces to rooftops in New York and the beaches of St Barts, rosé wine captivates palates the world over, uniting fans and celebrities around exclusive vintages such as those produced by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt (Château Miraval), Ridley Scott (Mas des Infermières) or George Lucas (Château Margüi). Born in Provence, it dates back to the Age of Antiquity when the Greeks planted the very first vines here, benefiting from fertile soil and a wonderful climate. Long underestimated, it now competes with the finest wines.

50 shades of… pink!

No, rosé is not a combination of red and white wine – a blend which has, in fact, been forbidden by the European Commission since 2009. Based on black grapes, its nuances, distinctive aromas and taste are the result of a complex production method demanding high precision and care. Vinification techniques along with direct pressing, skin maceration or bleeding all affect the intensity of the wine’s colour and aromatic profile. Pale, bright, dry, sweet, it comes in a variety of styles. From the delicacy and lightness of Provence to more full-bodied versions from Spain and Italy, each region offers a unique signature. Depending on the grape varieties selected, such as Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, rosé wines develop bouquets either floral, tangy or fruity.

From cocktail to table

Widely appreciated at summer barbecues, especially for its thirst-quenching freshness, rosé symbolizes conviviality and sharing. Ideal at the cocktail hour, it transforms itself into a ‘‘Pool’’ rosé when served with ice-cubes for cool, easy-going consumption! Now a trademark registered at the initiative of Jacques Tranier, ‘‘Rosé Piscine’’ is an invitation to share a laid-back lifestyle. A versatile all-rounder, rosé wine can also be enjoyed in all four seasons and pairs very well with many dishes. Thanks to its aromatic richness, chefs now make it a partner of choice, readily taking its place on star-rated tables.
